Blizzard will host the first ever Overwatch World Cup at Blizzcon, where the best players in the world will play for their home nation in a battle for national pride.
The exhibition tournament will see players come together to form national teams and compete in online qualifiers, with the top 16 teams getting a free trip to Blizzcon to play on the main stage. There is no direct prize pool for the event.
Teams will be formed via a fan vote, featuring the top players from each country. The online vote will be open to all Overwatch owners, but you can only vote for the country that your account is registered to. The voting period will begin on August 11th, with the online qualifiers taking place in September.
The Blizzcon tournament will truly be a world wide affair as there will be six teams from Europe, six from the Asia-Pacific region, and four from the Americas. The USA, Canada, Brazil, China, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand have all received direct passes to the Blizzcon finals for a number of reasons, including server locations, regional infrastructure and connectivity, and other geographical considerations.
