Scribblenauts developer to launch new IP on crowdfunding platform Fig

5th Cell, the creator of Scribblenauts, is to launch a completely new franchise via the power of crowdfunding.

The studio, which was also behind DS title Drawn to Life, has joined Double Fine, Harmonix, Obsidian Entertainment, inXile Entertainment and Mobius Digital on new funding service Fig.

The platform was set up by iconic developers including Tim Schafer, Feargus Urquhart and Brian Fargo back in August, and differs to competitors such as Kickstarter by offering backers a return on their investment in game titles.

"At 5th Cell, we’re excited about our latest original IP, which introduces new gameplay innovations and is set in a deep and engaging universe unlike any other,” said CEO and creative director Jeremiah Slaczka.

We look forward to bringing on investors who want to share in the future financial success of the title, while helping us to bring the game’s unique universe to life.

"We watched Fig’s first campaign, Outer Wilds, attract over $1 million in potential accredited investment and felt that of all the funding platforms, Fig’s was the perfect fit for our new IP."

5th Cell’s new franchise will launch its Fig campaign on October 21st, and will mark the first output from the studio since 2013’s Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure.
