Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove launching first on Nintendo Switch

Yacht Club Games has announced its upcoming Shovel Knight expansions, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will be launching on Nintendo Switch first during the console’s launch window. Other platforms will follow after sometime in the spring.

Yacht Club Games has yet to reveal specific release dates for its upcoming Shovel Knight campaigns, but it did say that Treasure Trove will cost $24.99, while Specter of Torment will cost just $9.99 in a recent blog post.

Last week the developer announced a whole ream of changes to its Shovel Knight series, including the news that each of the individual campaigns will be available to buy separately from now on, as well as the introduction of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, a kind of season pass that gives you the original Shovel Knight game (now renamed as Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope)alongside more options to add other campaigns to the title.

Here’s Yacht Club Games explaining the situation in its own words:

"Soon, the game you now know as Shovel Knight will become Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove," Yacht Club Games wrote on its website. "When that happens, you’ll also have new options to purchase each campaign as separate, standalone games on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC/Mac/Linux, and Nintendo Switch.

"Why is this happening? Well, we hope providing less expensive standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players! Also, players can more easily grab an adventure (or Battle Mode) on another platform!

"All owners of Shovel Knight on all platforms will automatically own Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove instead and will continue to get each of the planned free campaigns and features via updates. It will work exactly like how Shovel Knight was updated to include its first campaign addition, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows. Don’t worry!"

Yacht Club Games also announced it would be raising the price of Shovel Knight in the spring. "If you haven’t picked up Shovel Knight yet and want all the content included within Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, buy it now before the price increases this Spring! Or pick a selection of the standalone versions for a cheaper price!"

Also announced was a new two-player local co-op mode that will be available across all platforms excluding 3DS and Vita for existing Shovel Knight owners, and a new Body Swap mode, which adds new designs for body-swapped versions of the main characters. This will launch alongside Specter of Torment.

These updates are in addition to the already-announced King’s Knight campaign and four-player battle mode updates that are due later this year. These updates will also be coming to all platforms, including the Nintendo Switch, and will free to download for owners of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.
