Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be 3x bigger than its predecessor

Over 30 minutes of EA’s Play event was dedicated to Star Wars Battlefront 2 this evening, giving players an in-depth look at what to expect when the next instalment in its online shooter franchise launches this November.

After hundreds of players asked for the chance to play through a proper Star Wars story – including The Force Awakens actor John Boyega – EA Dice is adding a brand new single-player story mode that bridges the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

The title will have 3x more content than its 2015 predecessor, EA said during its presentation, and the multiplayer mode will feature more heroes, more vehicles and planets than ever before, along with deeper customisation and progression paths from across all three eras of Star Wars films.

A new class system is one of the biggest changes in the game, but players will also be able to earn Battle Points throughout each match that they can then spend on acquiring new heroes and playable characters, such as droids and vehicles. This should help shake-up Battlefront 2’s gameplay even more than the original.

EA also unveiled an outline of its post-launch strategy for Battlefront 2 as well, stating there will be themed seasons of content available at no extra charge to players. The first season will be themed around the upcoming film, The Last Jedi – which is due to arrive in cinemas just a few weeks after the game comes out on November 17th. Likewise, all post-launch heroes, maps and weapons will be free for everyone who owns a copy of the game.

Players who pre-order the game now will also be able to get early access to the multiplayer beta, which is due to kick off this autumn.
