Star Wars: Battlefront II has been officially revealed

Following the speculation and the leaks, Star Wars: Battlefront II has at last gone official.

The big news is that it will, unlike its predecessor, boast a full single player mode. Interesting, it will cast players as an infuriated Imperial trooper – Iden Versio – who has vowed revenge on the Rebels following the destruction of the second Death Star above Endor.

However, the action will span the saga’s entire timeline, with the official trailer offering us glimpses of the likes of Darth Maul, Kylo Ren and young Return of the Jedi-era Luke Skywalker.

Forge a new path as Iden Versio, commander of Inferno Squad—an Imperial special forces unit equally lethal on the ground and in space,” the blurb says. Encounter many of Star Wars ‘ greatest characters in a story of revenge, betrayal, and redemption that spans 30 years.”

Also confirmed is another missing element from the first game – space battles, which are confirmed to feature 24 players.

It has also been revealed that the story has been written by Walt Williams, who is perhaps best known for his work on the cult hit Spec Ops: The Line. Also on the writing team is former IGN journo Mitch Dyer, who currently works at Jade Raymond’s studio EA Motive.

The game is due out on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 17th, which is just a couple of weeks before the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Here’s the official, non-leaked version of the trailer:
