Star Wars Battlefront is EA’s biggest ever digital launch

EA hasn’t announced any sales numbers for Star Wars Battlefront, but it has said the game has claimed a new record.

In the same way that last month’s beta for the shooter broke internal publisher records by attracting 9m players, the full release has now become EA’s biggest ever digital launch. It’s also the biggest ever launch for a Star Wars game.

The publisher has also announced that some more free content is coming to the game. Next month sees the arrival of the Force Awakens-themed Battle of Jakku DLC. This will be followed by new maps and new Star Cards in the coming months”, all of which will be free to all and not locked behind the game’s Season Pass.

Retailer GameStop yesterday said that Star Wars: Battlefront, as well as Halo 5 and Assassin’s Creed: Unity, sold fewer units that it expected. Of EA’s shooter it stated: We had high expectations that diminished somewhat as it got closer, and then it failed to hit those lowered expectations.”

Last month EA upped its sales forecast for the title from 9-10m units to 13m units for the year ending March 2016.
