The Division delivers biggest day-one sales in Ubisoft’s history

Well, The Division has got off to an absolute flyer.

Ubisoft’s new Tom Clancy game has sold more copies in its first 24 hours than any other Ubisoft title in the company’s history, the firm states. So it’s bigger than any Assassin’s Creed or indeed Watch Dogs which, at the time of launch, was the fastest selling new IP ever (until Destiny came along a few months later).

Ubisoft proudly states that out of the four fastest-selling new IPs in the history of the games industry, it is responsible for three of them. Those four are Destiny, The Division, Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed.

The launch of The Division is a tremendous achievement for Ubisoft, and demonstrates our unrivalled capacity to create fantastic new game brands and transform them into entertainment blockbusters,” said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. This is a momentous day for Ubisoft, but more importantly it marks the start of millions of players’ enduring engagement in The Division’s game world, which we are confident they will love.”

MD of Ubisoft’s Massive studio David Polfeldt added: We’re extremely happy with The Division’s record-breaking launch.

The Division really represents Ubisoft at its best, with the Massive team and all the teams at our associate studios working at maximum capacity in highly-productive collaboration to deliver an incredibly innovative and entertaining new game.”
