There’s (another) Witcher movie on the way

The producer of The Mummy film franchise has announced a cinematic adaptation of The Witcher.

Yes, before pedantic readers point out, there has already been a movie made about the exploits of monster-murderer and serial womaniser Geralt of Rivia.

However, that 2001 Polish-language take on Andrzej Sapkowski's original set of novels has only a fleeting connection to this new film, which will be set for Western shores.

The full-length effort will be produced by The Sean Daniel Company, which previously produced The Mummy and is currently working on the re-make of Ben-Hur.

Based on Sapkowski's short stories The Witcher and Lesser Evil – rather than CD Projekt's games – the film will be created in part by Polish movie firm Platige Films and directed by Oscar-nominated director Tomasz Baginski.

It will be written by Thania St John, who has written for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Grimm, among other TV shows.

No actors have yet been attached to the project.

The first film will be the kick-off to a planned set of movies, and is planned to hit the silver screen in 2017.
