Uncharted film delayed once again

The film adaptation of Sony's Uncharted series has hit development trouble once more.

Forbes reports that production of the movie has now been ongoing for eight years, with plans first unveiled back in early 2008, shortly after the release of the first game.

In 2014, a summer 2016 release date was confirmed, although this later slipped to June 2017. Now Sony Pictures' most recent release calendar omits the title entirely.

Throughout that time, a number of actors have been linked with the role of Nathan Drake. These include Mark, Wahlberg, Chris Pratt, Nathan Fillion and Brett Dalton. Also numerous are the number of linked directors, which include David Russell, Neil Burger and Seth Gordon.

Sony's most recent film spin-off, Ratchet & Clank, was not well received by critics, with a 29 per cent review score on Metacritic.

The Uncharted game series, however, has enjoyed tremendous success in that time. Uncharted 4 was released in May, selling 2.7m units worldwide in its first week, becoming the Sony's most successful first party PS4 launch. It also enjoyed the series' best ever UK week one.
