GAME launches premium loyalty scheme

Retailer GAME is hoping to convince consumers to spend 36 per year to sign up to a new customer loyalty scheme.

Current GAME Reward Card users net two per cent back on purchases and one per cent on trade-ins. GAME Elite members will instead get ten per cent back on physical games and accessories, four per cent back on hardware and two per cent on trade-ins and digital.

Members will also get a selection of exclusive offers, the first of which include Xbox One hardware discounts. There are also some discount games, such as Destiny: The Collection for 20, and money off Turtle Beach PC accessories.

Oh, and you’ll also get a birthday gift.

If that sounds tempting to you, folk can currently sign up for GAME Elite for just 33 instead of 36.

How many games will need to be purchased each year to make back that 36? It’s hard to say, but if you’re talking full-price 50 games then you’d need to buy seven a year to cover the discount rate, which is doable for those who still buy their triple-A physically. Of course, you’d need to buy far more than that to start reaping significant benefits.

For digital buyers the deal makes less sense.

However, GAME is offering a Price Promise: If you have been a member for 12 full consecutive months, and you receive less points back from purchases than the fee you have paid for your membership for those 12 months, we will give you the difference back in points.”

That certainly makes the deal a lot sweeter.
