GameStop offering $100k worth of scholarships to US employees

US retailer GameStop has unveiled a program to help some of its employees obtain academic qualifications.

The Power to the Scholars program is open to eligible staff and their families, with 40 scholarships of $2,500 each up for grabs. In total $100k worth of university aid will be distributed.

To be eligible workers must have been employed by the company for at least a year, with scholarships being awarded based on financial need, academic skill, work experience and a host of other criteria.

There’s no better way to invest in our company than by supporting our employees and their families,” president of GameStop’s Gamer Fund Mike Buskey said. The Power to the Scholars program will enable us to help employees achieve great things in their careers, their lives, and for their families.”

Scholarship America’s president and CEO Lauren Segal added: Our mission is to make higher education more affordable and attainable for all students.

When a company like GameStop recognizes the value of higher education, how it can benefit employees and its broader network, and invests in this type of program, not only does it impact the company in a positive way, but it helps improve economic success for all.”
