GTA V back on top of UK retail charts; now within two weeks of Vice City’s series record

After three consecutive weeks where new IP ruled the UK retail charts, Rockstar’s crime opus Grand Theft Auto V has reclaimed its crown.

The past three weeks saw 2K’s Evolve, Sony’s The Order: 1886 and Warner Bros’ Dying Light take first place in the UK software rankings.

But thanks to a 49 per cent resurgence in sales, last week once again saw Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V sit at the top, marking its first chart-topping week since January and eighth week at Number One since launch.

It brings the game within reach of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City’s series-high record of 10 weeks at Number One. The PS2 title set the bar in its first 11 weeks on sale, following its release on November 8th 2002.

As a result of GTA’s return to the top, Dying Light fell to second place, sales down 43 per cent.

EA’s FIFA 15, meanwhile, stayed solid in third place, sales essentially flat (up one per cent).

The Xbox edition of Minecraft was a slight climber, jumping two places to number four despite sales similarly staying static (down one per cent).

Last week did see a couple of remastered titles hit the shelves; Capcom’s DmC: Definitive Edition debuted at number five, while Rebellion/Sold Out’s Sniper Elite III: Ultimate Edition lands at number 10. The latter title sat alongside its sibling title, Zombie Army Trilogy, which spent its second week at number nine.
