Halo Wars 2 to get physical PC release for Windows 10

THQ Nordic has announced that the Windows 10 version of Halo Wars 2 will receive a worldwide physical release at retail when it launches on February 21st. An ultimate edition will also be available in addition to the standard version.

Both the standard and ultimate editions of the game will be released with "high-quality packaging", according to a statement released by THQ Nordic, and will retail for 49.99 and 64.99 respectively. What’s more, since Halo Wars 2 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, anyone who purchases the physical Windows 10 version of the game will also gain automatic digital access to the Xbox One version at no extra charge.

The ultimate edition of Halo Wars 2 comes with a number of perks, not least the ability to gain access to the game four days early ahead of its official release. The ultimate edition also includes the game’s season pass and a copy of Halo Wars: Definitive Edition, an enhanced version of the original Halo Wars title that’s also playable on both Windows 10 and Xbox One via the Xbox Play Anywhere scheme.

Halo Wars: Definitive Edition will support up to 4K resolutions on Windows 10 PCs and will include all the original DLC, new achievements, bonus content and improved visual effects, graphics and audio.

Meanwhile, the season pass will provide at least six months of regular updates, including new leader characters with game-changing abilities to shake up matches, new units, new Blitz cards and a new campaign mission to expand Halo Wars 2’s story.

After working on so many titles together with Microsoft in 2016, we are stoked to start the year with another partnership," founder and group CEO of Nordic THQ Lars Wingefors said.

"Being able to deliver such a big franchise to RTS and Halo fans alike, the opportunity to buy and own this game in a beautiful physical shape is something we appreciate a lot.”

343 Industries studio head of strategy games development Dan Ayoub added: For fans who love to own the box, we’re excited to partner with THQ Nordic and bring Halo Wars 2 to physical release on Windows 10. THQ Nordic has been great to work with and we look forward to the game’s release on Feb. 21, 2017.”
