Nier: Automata hits 2m shipments and digital sales

Square Enix and PlatinumGames' action RPG Nier: Automata has hit another huge milestone, the publisher has announced. After hitting 1.5m shipmentsin May this year, thegame's shipments and digital sales have now reached at least two million across the globe.

The game released on PS4 and PC earlier this year to great critical acclaim, and to celebrate Square Enix is offering a discounted price on both versions of the game – 35 per cent off on Steam until September 25th, or 36 per cent off on the PlayStation Store until September 27th.

It has also announced it will be releasing a Nier: Automata / Nier: Gestalt & Replicant original soundtrack vinyl box set exclusively through its online store. Pre-orders for the box set, which contains music from the latest entry in the series and the Xbox 360 and PS3 originals, open on September 25th in Europe, with an expected shipping date sometime in December. It will feature four vinyl LPs with a variety of tracks by series composer Keiichi Okabe as well as exclusive illustrations from Tokyo Ghoul illustrator Sui Ishida.

If that wasn't enough for Nier music fans, Square Enix has also opened pre-orders for two Nier concert Blu-ray discs.

Nier: Automata debuted at No.6 in the UK weekly chart back in March earlier this year, and it also caused a huge rise in PS4 sales when it released in Japan, where it went straight in at the top of the Japanese weekly chart with over 180,000 units sold.

When we spoke to Square Enix ahead of its UK release, senior product manager Chris Arnold called the game "an incredible marriage between PlatinumGames action and Square Enix RPG".

He continued: It experiments with many styles and genres as this is something the development team and director, Yoko Taro, really wanted to include to give the game as much variety as possible to express the gameplay and story in different ways. This was a part of the previous game which people really liked, and in some ways the experimentation and quirky style really is the essence of Nier and is in there to surprise players as much as possible.”
