PS4 priced Rs 39,990, India launch on 6th January

The PlayStation 4 will go on sale in India on 6th January at a maximum retail price of Rs 39,990.

The price and date were first announced by Medianama, and were subsequently confirmed by Sony at a press conference today.

The press conference was attended by Kinichiro Hibi, managing director of Sony India; Robert Fisser, vice president of SCEE for Middle East, Africa, Turkey and India, and Atindriya Bose, country manager of PlayStation India.

Only one SKU of the PS4 will be sold in India and it will not bundle the camera or any game. Unlike the PS3, which launched with multiple hard drive variants, the PS4 is only available with a 500 GB hard drive.

Answering questions from the media after the press conference, Fisser said that the PS4 was sold out in the Middle East within eight hours of going on sale. Bose added that Sony expects 90% of PS4 stock in India to be sold out within the first week.

Sony will also sell the Dualshock 4 controller and the PS4 camera in India, both priced at Rs 4,990.

We’ll update this post with more news from the press conference as we get it.
