Retail listing says Battlefield 5 is a World War 1 shooter

A listing for the as-of-yet unannounced Battlefield 5 has turned up online, complete with a very surprising detail.

PCGamesN reports that an entry for Battlefield 5 has cropped up on the site of German retailer World of Games. As well as naming PS4, Xbox One and PC as the formats, it also carries the following description – ‘Mehrspieler Taktik Shooter im 1. Weltkrieg’.

In English, that’s ‘multiplayer tactical shooter from World War 1′.

The Battlefield series has of course dabbled in historical warfare before with the likes of debut release Battlefield 1942, 2004’s Battlefield Vietnam and 2009’s Battlefield 1943.

However, the series has been largely entrenched in the present since the days of Battlefield 2 in 2005. Its most recent entry, Battlefield Hardline, distanced itself from a military setting entirely, focusing on urban gang combat.
