Shelf Life: GAME Edinburgh

We speak to Ewan Shaw, senior sales assistant at GAME Edinburgh about the store’s expertise on a variety of gaming content, the retailer’s in-store events and why people come in time and time again.

Tell us about your store team.

Our team has a combined age of 350 years, which makes for a whole lot of gaming experience.

We have extensive knowledge of all gaming brands and formats. It is this experience that allows us to guide the questions consumers come to us with. We have team members who are passionate about new releases as well as others who have great affection for retro. Some of our staff even develop their own games, but we all have one thing in common, we love gaming.

What’s your store speciality?

We see the folks that walk into our store not as customers, but as gamers, just like us. This drives us to deliver great service that is not only fitting, but a breath of fresh air.

We take our time to leave a personal stamp on the people in our store. We cater for all walks of life – from the hardcore fan, to the grandparents who need guidance on what to buy for Christmas. We see it as our duty to make sure that we take all the time we need to ensure that every single person who comes through our doors leaves with the right product.

GAME does loads of in-store events. What has been your most successful one to date?

It would have to be the PS4 launch. Our store was packed full of gamers – and staff – dying
to get their hands on Sony’s newest hardware. The atmosphere was fantastic and we even managed to squeeze in time for giveaways and prizes. We even managed to get home and have a go on our own PS4s before daylight.

What kind of events are you putting on at the moment?

We always have something going on for our community to be a part of whether it be in-store events, exclusive lock-ins, midnight launches, special guest appearances, gaming tournaments or something for our younger generation of gamers such as Skylander or Disney Infinity mornings, you can always count on us to have something for you to be part of should you find yourself at a loose end.

We’re always looking for what our community wants us to do to; after all we are our their store.
