Steam has announced its top 100 best selling games of 2016, with Civilization VI, Rocket League and The Witcher III: Wild Hunt all making the top twelve. The data didn't include exact revenue figures, but the games were grouped into Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze rankings based on gross revenue in 2016.
Aside from Civilization VI, Rocket League and The Witcher III, other games to receive a Platinum rank were Counter Strike: Global Offensive, XCOM 2, Total War: Warhammer, Tom Clancy's The Division, No Man's Sky, DOTA 2, Dark Souls III, Fallout 4 and Grand Theft Auto V.
DOTA 2 wasn't the only free-to-play title to make the top 100, either, as Warframe and Team Fortress 2 earned themselves a Gold ranking, while War Thunder: Way of the Samurai, Smite: Battleground of the Gods claimed silver.
Meanwhile, in the Bronze category, which made up 56 of the 100 entries, free-to-play titles Tree Savior, Knight Online, Path of Exile: Atlas of Worlds and Life is Strange made the list.
Interestingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops III beat Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, with the former claiming Gold while the latter only made Bronze. Likewise, both Dishonored and Dishonored 2 made Bronze, as did Football Manager 2016 and Football Manager 2017.
Games with VR support made up just 5 per cent of the list, with DOTA 2, ARK: Survival Evolved, Subnautica, War Thunder: Way of the Samurai and Elite: Dangerous the only titles to make the top 100.
Valve's Steam Controller also made an appearance on the list in the Bronze category. It was the only piece of hardware to make the top 100.
