Top Five Longest-Running UK Indies: Console Connections

Our Indie Retail Month in association with Gem continues to look at the UK’s top longest-running indies with Console Connections.

Co-owner Mark Conacher tells MCV what goes into maintaining 20 years of high level customer service

Truro-based Console Connections began life as small unit 20 years ago and now stocks a large range of new and pre-owned games and consoles alongside a disc repair service.

The secret to our longevity is remaining competitive and focusing on our core market, which is games obviously,” says co-owner Mark Conacher.

Our staff are gamers themselves and they prove to customers that they have outstanding knowledge. This helps us to give quality advice and service to customers old and new.”

Looking to the future, the store aims to ride out any changes on the High Street by sticking to what has made them the store it is today: good service around the current, and next generation, of consoles.

Conacher adds: As you can imagine we have seen many changes in the products we sell and the High Street over 20 years, with many stores coming and going. Going forward, we want to maintain the great level of service we provide with the current formats and to bring that forward with the next gen.”

Speaking of the next-gen, Conacher remains on the fence regarding the recent reveal of the Xbox One.

I’m not sure what to make of it at the moment as they don`t seem to have given the full picture. It was just a lot about the TV side of the console. Although I am sure there will be more info coming soon and hopefully more new games.”
