UPDATED: Nintendo Switch boxes and UK Zelda Breath of the Wild special editions revealed

Nintendo has unveiled the packaging for its new Nintendo Switch titles. As seen on Nintendo of America’s website,Switch games will be packaged in long, vertical cases not too dissimilar from PSP boxes.

So far, only a few boxes have appeared in their final form online, including Zelda: Breath of the Wild, 1-2 Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon. The final box art may change in the UK, of course (Zelda has already been confirmed to have different box art compared to the US version), but it looks as though Nintendo’s going for a full-on colour offensive, putting the games’ bright, vibrant personality front and centre.

We also now know how much Switch games will cost in the UK. Games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon will retail for 59.99 (although Amazon UK has since lowered Zelda to 50), while other titles such as 1-2 Switch will retail for 39.99.

As well as the standard long, thin cases, it looks as though special edition game boxes will revert back to traditional DVD-size packaging.

A Limited Edition of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, for example, has been announced for the UK. The outer packaging features the US box art, and comes with a Master Sword statue and a Sound Selection soundtrack, but the bundled copy of the game will feature the standard UK box art. This will retail for 89.99.

This may come as a disappointment to UK fans, however, as the US will be receiving two extra editions, a $99.99 Special Edition and a $129.99 Master Edition. As you can see below, the Special Edition will feature a copy of the game, a 24-song soundtrack CD, a Sheikah Eye collectible coin, a Nintendo Switch Sheikah Slate carrying case, as well as a Relic of Hyrule: Calamity Ganon Tapestry and Weather-Worn Map.

Meanwhile, the Master Edition comes with a large, black box featuring the Zelda logo as well as a Master Sword statute. It also includes everything else mentioned in the Special Edition above.
