Hotz brings OtherOS back to PS3

Just one week after declaring war on PS3 platform holder Sony, hacker George Hotz has demonstrated a custom version of Sony’s latest firmware 3.21 that can run the since removed OtherOS functionality.

The recent 3.21 firmware update removed the functionality from PS3s – a move Sony said was designed to combat potential piracy threats.

Hotz claims that his custom firmware can be installed without the need to open up or tamper with the PS3 hardware, and adds that it may even be possible to use his hack to introduce OtherOS functionality to PS3 Slim consoles.

He also added a word of warning to Sony: Note to the people who removed OtherOS. You are potentially turning 100000+ legit users into "hackers." There was a huge (20x) traffic spike to this blog after the announcement of 3.21. If I had ads on this site I guess I’d be thanking you.”
