Lawsuit blocking Xbox Live status updates

Following a

period of ongoing problems

that saw many gamers go without access to multiplayer gaming over Christmas, Microsoft has now confessed that it is unable to update gamers as to its progress in addressing the issues.

Microsoft previously stated that a high number of new Live subscribers over the Christmas break mean that many existing users had trouble accessing its network.

As a result, an American lawyer has decided to sue the firm for $5 million, claiming the outages constituted a breach of contract – so now online voice Major Nelson can no longer advise gamers of Microsoft’s efforts to address the issues.

In a webcast released on his blog, Major Nelson stated: Unfortunately a lawyer has decided to sue us, there is litigation, and once that happens I can no longer make a comment. I can’t say anything so I apologise, but go talk to the lawyer. That’s all I can say about that.”
