TIGA: 40% of UK devs focused on iOS and PC

Desktop PCs and iOS devices are the most popular platforms among UK studios, with 41 per cent of last year’s game releases making their way to their platforms.

The figure was revealed by TIGA’s 2016 Genre Report, which examined 191 games developed by 154 studios in 2015. You can read the full report here.

iOS and PC had a near even split around the 20 per cent mark, while Android accounted for 17 per cent of games released in the last year. More than 90 games were released for iOS and Windows Desktop, according to the report.

Wii U was the platform with the fewest releases – even behind last gen machines PS3 and Xbox 360.

In terms of genre, just under a quarter of all UK-developed games last year – 24.21 per cent – were classed as action/adventure. This was followed by traditional arcade games at 18.42 per cent, then puzzle and trivia games at 15.26 per cent.

The least popular genres were horror and music, despite heavy hitters Guitar Hero Live and Until Dawn both being developed in the UK.
