Sony fans will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on Final Fantasy XIV.
Square Enix has announced the PS3 version of its MMO has been delayed in order to allow for further development and some planned improvements. This is despite reports that work on Final Fantasy XIV for PS3 was completed last month.
An apology was issued on the game’s official website by the company’s president and CEO Yoichi Wada.
Regarding the PlayStation 3, it is not our wish to release a simple conversion of the Windows version in its current state, but rather an update that includes all the improvements we have planned,” said Wada.
For that reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of the PlayStation 3 version beyond the originally announced date of March 2011.”
Square Enix also confirmed that the free trial period has been extended indefinitely until the publisher is satisfied with the game’s quality.
The core development team has also been restructured, with Naoki Yoshida taking over from Hiromichi Tanaka and Nobuaki Komoto as both director and producer. Komoto will now be lead game designer.
