8.4m PS4s sold worldwide during Q3

Sony has revealed it sold 8.4 million PlayStation 4s during Q3 2015.

The tech giant revealed this information in its latest financial reports. This is a 2m increase in unit sales year-on-year for the quarter (which ended December 31st 2015).

In total, Sony’s Game and Network Services division generated 587bn (3.3bn) in revenue for the quarter – a 10.5 per cent jump year-on-year.

This solid performance is due to an increase in PS4 hardware and software sales, but was tempered by a reduction in console and game sales for the PlayStation 3.

In addition, Sony predicts it will sell 17.5 million PlayStation 4s by the end of the financial year. 14.8 million units were sold during the previous fiscal year.

Overall, PlayStation 4 sales have hit 35.9 million.
