The 3DS has hit a major milestone, selling over 10m systems in Japan.
Enterbrain data via Famitsu reveals the 3DS and 3DS LL have combined to sell 10,068,192 units as of January 6th. The 3DS line reached the figure in 98 weeks, a feat that took its predecessor the DS Lite 61 weeks in comparison.
The data specifically highlights the popularity of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, which has driven hardware sales since its launch in Japan last November. The handheld saw over 400,000 units sold during the fourth week of December, and the latest Animal Crossing offering has been the spark.
The 3DS originally debuted in Japan back in February 2011.
