Activision reloads GoldenEye 007

James Bond will return – and sooner than people think, thanks to Activision’s upcoming Xbox 360 and PS3 shooter GoldenEye 007: Reloaded.

Developed by Eurocom, this is an enhanced version of last year’s acclaimed Wii title and a reimagining of the much-lauded Nintendo 64 original. The game features a new engine, HD graphics and an expanded multiplayer mode that supports up to 16 players.

New to the offering is MI6 Ops, a new mode of single-player challenges that task Bond fans with infiltrating or assaulting enemy facilities, or defending objectives against waves of soldiers. The mode features online leaderboards to add a competitive element.

The game is due for release by the end of the year.

Reloaded is GoldenEye on high-definition systems for the first time,” the title’s producer James Steer told MCV. We felt that Wii was the right launch platform for this game given the brand’s Nintendo heritage, but people wanted more and we wanted to make this a true HD experience.

We were very happy with the way [the Wii original] was received. It’s difficult to change and update something that everyone knows and loves like GoldenEye, but the review scores were excellent and it proved that we made some good decisions.

We’ve taken the game from last year and expanded on pretty much every aspect: the graphical appeal, the audio, the multiplayer and this entirely new MI6 Ops mode. There isn’t an area that we haven’t reloaded so we’re very hopeful about how well this will be received.”
