Activision returns to Transformers IP

Publisher Activision Blizzard has confirmed that it is back aboard the Transformers bandwagon and lining up a games release to coincide with the summer arrival of DreamWorks and Paramount’s movie sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

The game, which will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PC, DS and PSP will allow gamers to play as either the Autobots or the Deceptions in a range of environments including Cairo and Shanghai. It will also bring online multiplayer to the franchise for the first time.

A range of developers have been recruited for the production, including Luxoflux (360, PS3), Beenox (PC), Krome (PS2), Vicarious Visions (DS) and Savage Entertainment (PSP).

"The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game will give fans the chance to experience their favourite Autobots and Decepticons in an all-new, movie inspired adventure packed with the thrilling and explosive action that only the Transformers universe can deliver," Activision Blizzard’s VP of global brand management Rob Kostich stated.

"We are thrilled to announce that after experiencing the rush of commanding colossal robots on their own, players can challenge their friends for the first time ever in full-featured, blistering multiplayer action as their favourite characters."

Hasbro’s general manager of digital gaming and media Mark Blecher added: Activision has developed a Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game that will give gamers and fans a truly compelling way to experience Transformers. The Activision team’s passion for the property clearly shows in the character development, intense action and rich graphics that really deliver an immersive experience for the user."

Activision last year released two Transformers titles – Transforms: The Game on more or less every format and cartoon tie-in Transformers Animated: The Game on DS.
