Aliens vs. Predator game in the works

Sega has revealed another weapon in its Aliens armoury – a new Aliens vs. Predator game being developed by UK developer Rebellion.

The studio was also behind the 1995 release of the same name on Atari’s ill-fated Jaguar console – a game regarded by many as by far the best on the system. It also developed the successful 1999 PC outing and 2007’s PSP release Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem.

The new game is said to be one of what Sega describes as its increasing portfolio of upcoming games based on Twentieth Century Fox’s Aliens universe”. Aside from Colonial Marines, there’s also an RPG in the works from Obsidian.

The innovative new AvP game presents an exciting opportunity for us,” Sega West CEO Naoya Tsurumi stated. It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming’s most cherished iconic titles.

However, Sega has also confirmed that Rebellion’s title will be the first of its Alien games to be released – and with a speculative release date of 2010, that means Gearbox’s highly anticipated Aliens: Colonial Marines has definiitely slipped.

Tsurumi added: "By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, Sega will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans.”
