Angry Birds gets a sequel – Bad Piggies, out September 27th

The biggest hit in modern gaming is to receive a sequel.

Angry Birds had a pseudo successor earlier this year in the form of Angry Birds Space, but September 27th will see the release of its first direct sequel – Bad Piggies.

The game will cost 69p to download on iOS, although Android, PC and Mac versions will be available on the same day.

Rovio’s executive VP Petri Jarvilehto told FastCompany that we consider this the launch of a new franchise”.

The game sees the iconic green swine – who have dropped their moody persona seen in Angry Birds in favour of a more jovial disposition – tasked with constructing vehicles and contraptions in order to obtain eggs.

Angry Birds has been downloaded over one billion times and has 200m active monthly users.

Interestingly, however, Rovio has struggled to duplicate the success of Angry Birds with its other titles, most notably its last release Amazing Alex. What it has mastered, in contrast, is the art of selling – the Angry Birds brand has grown into one of the richest licenses in the world.
