Apple launches cheaper 8GB iPhone 5C

An 8GB version of the supposedly ‘budget’ iPhone 5C is now available.

The SKU this morning appeared on Apple and mobile operator websites and is priced at 429 standalone. The existing 16GB (469) and 32GB (549) models are still available.

Apple has never published official sales date for the 5C but the belief is that it has fallen short of expectations and consistently lagged behind the numbers enjoyed by the ‘full-fat’ iPhone 5S.

The most common criticism is that the 5C, which from the beginning has been pitched as the budget iPhone option, remains too expensive, particularly as it is technically almost identical to the aging iPhone 5.
