Apple refunds Aussie iPad 3 buyers

Customers who felt mislead by the advertising of the iPad 3 in Australia are eligible for a refund following a complaint by The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

The BBC reports that some consumers were disgruntled by the fact that the iPad’s advertised 4G network capabilities are not in fact compatible with Australia’s mobile networks.

"Apple’s recent promotion of the new ‘iPad with wi-fi + 4G’ is misleading because it represents to Australian consumers that the product can, with a sim card, connect to a 4G mobile data network in Australia, when this is not the case, " the ACCC argues.

Apple has not accepted that it mislead customers, saying that the device is compatible on what is globally accepted to be a 4G network .

It has, however, offered to refund unhappy customers.

The case will be heard in court on May 2nd.
