Apple TV games must be compatible with new remote

A further restriction has emerged that further dents the gaming credentials of the new Apple TV.

TouchArcade reports that all games for the device must be compatible with Apple’s new touch and motion sensitive remote. Games can of course also support more standard Bluetooth controllers – Apple is even actively promoting them – but titles designed only with standard controllers in mind have been ruled out.

It seems too that this requirement has only been put in place subsequent to the device’s unveiling last week.

Add to this the fact that Apple is capping the size of Apple TV games to a quite meagre 200MB and it starts to feel as if Apple is actively introducing mechanisms to prevent its box from competing with the likes of PS4 and Xbox One.

While Apple has not commented officially, it’s likely that the controller restriction is in place to prevent buyers from purchasing a game only to subsequently discover that they don’t have the equipment necessary to play it.
