ATARI LIVE: Witcher on consoles confirmed

It might have not done a great job of

keeping quiet on the news

, but Atari has today at a press gathering in London officially confirmed that its PC RPG hit The Witcher is heading to consoles.

Both Xbox 360 and PS3 will be targeted, and Atari is promising more than just a port – in fact, the publisher has pledged to totally redo the entire experience with a more balanced combat system and new motion capture technology.

A tentative release date of autumn 2009 has also been announced.

Though it’s unlikely we’ll see anything in 2009, Infogrames president and former PlayStation guru Phil Harrison also stated that sequels to franchises such as Test Drive, Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights and Dungeons & Dragons are all in the pipeline.

The firm also revealed that it’s hard at work on a new instalment to the Ready 2 Rumble boxing series, which is being lined up for the Wii. Interestingly, the new game is set to include celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Beckham, Brad Pitt and John Travolta.

Elsewhere at the event, Atari confirmed that Ghostbusters will be released next June and that it will be publishing a brand new Q Entertainment outing on the Wii.
