Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin is out this week on PC, but how much it will cost you will very much depend.
In the US the new DirectX 11 version of the game, which includes a re-worked version of the title and all of its DLC, will cost $49.99. Those who already own the older game and all the DLC can buy the new release for $19.99. Have the old game but not the DLC? Then it’ll cost you $29.99. Alternatively, the DX9 version will remain available for $39.99, including all the DLC.
UK pricing has yet to be confirmed.
Bandai Namco has confirmed that the DX11 and DX9 versions of the game will have different Steam listings – although the new one is not yet live. We’re still yet to see any footage of the new build in action, either, although improved graphics are sounds are promised alongside the numerous gameplay and enemy tweaks, along with changes to item placements.
We do know, however, that both of the PC games will be separated on a server level, and progress cannot be carried between them. Buying the new game will not effect your installation of the old, however, nor will any characters or progress be wiped.
The PC version of Scholar of the First Sin is going to be out earlier than expected, too – April 1st, to be exact.
The PC requirements for the two games are much the same, although the DX11 build requires a 64-bit OS.
Note that the PS4, Xbox One, PS4 and Xbox 360 versions of the game will be released one day later in the UK on April 2nd. There isn’t any discount for existing owners on those platforms, although the games are retailing at a discount to start with – the last gen versions are widely available from 22 while the next-gen SKUs can be found for around 34.
In the US the game doesn’t come out on consoles until April 7th.
