Battlefield 1943 breaks XBLA records

Digital-only multiplayer shooter Battlefield 1943 has become the fastest game to 1m sales on Xbox Live, EA has confirmed.

The reception of Battlefield 1943 continues to amaze us, even months after the game was released,” the game’s producer Gordon Van Dyke said in a statement.

Being the fastest game to reach this milestone is an incredible achievement. The game has set a new standard for what can be done in the downloadable games category. It’s fantastic to see how gamers have recognized the value that the game delivers for just 10.

It is another great entry point into the Battlefield franchise.”

The news comes as EA’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 go head-to-head today with both releasing major DLC updates for their titles.

MW2’s Stimulus DLC pack includes five new multiplayer maps and a number of in-game tweaks and will, controversially, cost gamers just over 10 to download. Battlefield’s update, which includes two new maps, is free to those who entered the VIP code found in the box when they purchased the game.
