Battlefield 3 sells 5m copies

Battlefield 3 has become the fastest-selling game in EA's history after selling 5m units in a matter of days, the publisher has announced.

The game went on sale on Friday, October 28th on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It has 2.5m Facebook 'likes' and over 200,000 followers on Twitter. Plus, Battlefield 3 players have executed 73m saviour kills since the game's release.

The news comes after EA said it had shipped 10m copies of the game out to retailers.

“From Tokyo to Los Angeles, Sydney to London, millions of fans have been playing all weekend long – we are overwhelmed by the global response to Battlefield 3,” said Patrick Soderlund, executive VP of the EA Games label.

"It is extremely gratifying to deliver an entertainment experience that delights our fans, and to have the opportunity to introduce new people to the franchise. Already, we are seeing unprecedented play times and online activity which is very rewarding. This launch solidifies Battlefield as a leading entertainment brand."

Some players reportedly experienced connection issues at release, though EA says that "servers and service uptime stabilised to roughly 98.9 per cent throughout the weekend".

5m sales.. sounds ok, but then the campaign is actually only 'ok'. Some will love it (they probably won't play the campaign and will forgive the multiplayer for it's issues), others will hate it. Either way the industry needs some sales and gamers playing so best of luck to this.

Will the other 5m sell before the trade in bins fill up? lets see...
