Bayonetta sales hit 1.1m

Platinum Games’ much applauded hack ‘n’ slash title Bayonetta has sold a total of 1.1m units worldwide since it went on sale in October last year (in Japan).

Despite this feat the game fails to become Sega’s best selling game in the nine months ending December 31st – that accolade is reserved for the smash hit Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, which managed sales of 5,670,000 units in the period.

Other strong sellers included Football manager 2010 (740k) and Phantasy Star Portable 2 (540k).

Total game sales for the period reached 16.7m units. Europe accounted for nearly half of these, snapping up 8.16m units. 6.09m were bought in the US and Japanese gamers grabbed 2.47m games.
