Best Buy quits UK this month

US retail giant Best Buy has confirmed it will close all 11 of it UK stores on January 15th.

The company confirmed it would be withdrawing from the UK market back in November, following years of working with the Carphone Warehouse to establish a foothold here. It first store opened in 2010.

Best Buy announced the final date for its store closures in a corporate letter, according to Yahoo.

"We’ve loved bringing our passion for the latest and greatest technology to Britain over the past two years, and have always had the utmost appreciation, respect and commitment to the entire UK marketing place, our customers and stakeholers," it read.

"However, as you may know, based upon the outcome of our employee consultation, we intend to cease retail trading at our Best Buy UK branded stores and website by January 15th, 2012."

Back in November, retailer experts told MCV Best Buy’s UK venture had been doomed from the start.
