Black Bean has X Factor

Italian publisher Black Bean has snapped up the video game rights for Simon Cowell’s latest talent search The X Factor, MCV can exclusively reveal.

The title will be unveiled later this month, and is set for release complete with a Logitech microphone on PS2 and PC on October 21st, priced at £39.99.

“We’ve got a very strong licence and very strong technology behind it,” Black Bean head of marketing Marco Minoli told MCV, who added that he expected the title to be superior to Codemasters’ Pop Idol game of 2003.

“The Pop Idol game was not quite as good as it should have been, as it wasn’t really true to the show. With The X Factor we intend to use the licence to its fullest. Pitch recognition technology similar to the SingStar games is more part of the game, and with Simon Cowell’s comments the player will really feel like part of the show.”

MCV can reveal that the title is to be unveiled at next week’s GME for the first time. Black Bean is embarking on a major marketing campaign to promote the title, including competitions on ITV 2’s The Xtra Factor, promoted through ads in teenage magazines like Bliss, Mizz, Smash Hits and TOTP, as well as through radio advertising on Capital, Kiss and Virgin.
