Black Ops claims all-time US crown

Following its chart-topping performance in February, US sales tracker NPD has confirmed that Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops has become the best-selling game ever in the region.

In does so after just four months on the market, overtaking Nintendo’s former record holder Wii Play.

Capcom’s Marvel vs Capcom 3 claimed second place in the February charts while there were also strong performances from Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2, Majesco’s Zumba Fitness, EA’s Bulletstorm and Sony’s Killzone 3.

There was also a good showing from DLC points cards, sales of which were up 52 per cent year-on-year. 1600 Point Xbox Live cards were the best selling SKU in the category.

"Retail sales of console software were up two per cent in units while the portable segment declined," NPD analyst Anita Frazier stated.

"The top ten games for the month outsold the top 10 from last February by six per cent in units. There were fewer new releases in February 2011 versus February 2010, but those new releases were more productive, selling more on average than the new releases did last year."

Here’s the February top ten in full:
1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision)
2. Marvel Vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (Capcom)
3. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft)
4. NBA 2K11 (2K Games)
5. Dead Space 2 (EA)
6. Zumba Fitness (Majesco)
7. Bulletstorm (EA)
8. Killzone 3 (Sony)
9. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Ubisoft)
