Sales of 2m units in its first five days on release has seen Call of Duty: Black Ops shatter UK sales records and effortlessly claim the position of UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats No.1.
The numbers represent an estimated revenue of £81.9m. The numbers are 13 per cent better than last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in unit terms and 21 per cent up in revenue terms – perhaps representing the gentler approach taken the High Street discounting this time out.
Chart-Track reports that the launch is “by far the biggest ever of any game”, helping the UK market to its biggest grossing week of all-time at £113.8m.
The Xbox 360 version of the game claimed 55 per cent of total sales, with the PS3 taking 42 per cent.
Black ops sold 1.4m units in its first 24 hours in the UK last week.
