Microsoft has announced that former Channel 5 digital boss Kate Barnes has joined Microsoft Studios’ Soho Productions as executive producer.
She will in her new role be responsible for the studio’s EMEA TV strategy.
Barnes was made boss of Channel 5’s digital channels 5* and 5USA in 2007 and oversaw the company’s Freeview strategy. She was dropped in November of last year after the channel decided to scrap the role.
Her work at Microsoft will continue the company’s “2-way TV experiences” debuted in the likes of Kinect Sesame Street and Kinect Nat Geo TV.
“It’s an amazing time to be joining not only Soho Productions but also Xbox as we look to evolve the content experience to meet the changing ways that audiences are consuming entertainment,” Barnes stated.
“Soho Productions are at the forefront of this and have already demonstrated their innovation and commitment in this space with Kinect Sesame Street TV last year.”
