Child of Light studio now a core team at Ubisoft Montreal

The developers responsible for Child of Light have been established as a core team at Ubisoft Montreal, following the critical and commercial success of the digital title.

In an interview with CVG, Ubisoft Montreal’s VP of creative Lionel Reynaud described the move as mutually beneficial for the team and the company.

"The team learned a lot about RPG mechanics during development and this has resulted in us creating a core team," Reynaud said. "The people who made this game now want to work together again, whether it’s on a small game or not.

"This dynamic has incredible value in the industry and it’s what we want to do: we want to create core teams that want to make great games."

The RPG was made possible by the firm’s initiative to allow developers to pitch ideas between projects – the same method that led to the release of an Ubisoft franchise spinoff in Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

"I think it’s super interesting to create this rhythm in the careers of creative guys, allowing them to work on triple-A games and then do something different and then maybe go back,"Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat added.

"For me it’s important for projects like Child of Light and Far Cry: Blood Dragon to exist and to know that there is a place for them here."

Child of Light is currently available for $15 on PC, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms.
