Child's Play charity raises $5m in 2012

Orgainzers of Child's Play have revealed over $5m was raised during 2012 for the games industry charity.

The figure marks the biggest year yet for the organization, topping 2011's then-record-setting $3.5m by a wide margin.

"We are overwhelmed, honored, grateful, and incredibly proud to be a part of such an amazing community of generous gamers," a representative stated on the Child's Play website. "Thank you for a record-breaking 2012!"

The rep thanked all the event organizers, volunteers, and participants for their work to hit such a milestone, making specific mention of the Humble Bundle team and game marathons such as the Mario Marathon and Zeldathon.

Child's Play was founded in 2003 by Penny Arcade's Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, and aims to improve lives of hospitalized children by offering toys and games at an international network of over 70 facilities.
