China's Tencent posts second consecutive $1bn+ quarter

Tencent, the owner of successful internet and mobile games developer Riot Games, has posted another set of astronomical numbers.

Total revenue for the quarter ending September 30th reached $1.18bn, which is a year-on-year gain of over 11 per cent. It’s the second quarter in a row that revenue has topped $1bn.

Online games were the most successful category, contributing over $650m in sales. That’s a 14 per cent year-on-year rise.

A number of online titles were credited for the growth including Dungeon and Fighter, Cross Fire, League of Legends and the QQ games range.

At one point the QQ service has over 8m players logged in simultaneously.
