Darksiders 2 gets PS4 and Xbox One remake; Third game will be made

Nordic Games has announced Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition for both PS4 and Xbox One.

Both games will be visually upgraded from their 2012 predecessor, running at 1080p, and include all of its post-release DLC. Loot distribution and gameplay balance changes will also be introduced.

The port is being handled by Gunfire Games, which is comprised largely of former Vigil Games staff who have worked on the series in the past.

Nordic acquired the Darkstalkers IP in 2013. It said at the time that it was interested in making a third game in the series, but was willing to take its time to avoid releasing what it described as a potentially shitty sequel”.

Now, however, it has confirmed that a new Darksiders project will be made.

We took over the franchise roughly two years ago and thought about the next chapter for Darksiders ever since then,” Nordic’s business and product development director Reinhard Pollice said. Naturally there will be a large-scale project based on Darksiders, but for now it is very important for us to take care of the existing games and make those available to a broader audience.

Bringing Darksiders 2 to current gen was a logical step for us and the team at Gunfire Games know their trade inside-out, so we easily and quickly had lots of ideas that we wanted to realise for this specific edition.”

Gunfire president and founder David Adams added: It feels good to be working on Darksiders again, after a couple of years of hiatus. This project is a great opportunity for us to pick up where we left off two years ago and dig deeper into the game, which is close to all our hearts. Bringing the definitive Darksiders 2 experience to life is something that we hope a lot of people will enjoy and look forward to.”
