Dead or Alive topples Need for Speed

Ubisoft’s King Kong falls short of its street-racing rival by a whisker, falling one place to third spot, whilst another EA title, The Sims 2, also drops one place to number four in the official Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 5 grabs fifth place, whilst EA’s third top ten title, FIFA 06, is close behind in sixth.

Meanwhile, Activision’s Call of Duty 2, spearheaded by the Xbox 360 version, climbs two spots to claim seventh thanks to a massive sales increase, whilst Rockstar’s PSP blockbuster Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories drops two spots to number eight.

Microsoft’s 360 launch title Project Gotham Racing 3 rockets upwards eight places to ninth, with LucasArts’ Star Wars Battlefront 2 falling two places to tenth.

In the first week this year to see both a unit and value climb in software sales, it’s the three next-gen formats that excel, claiming over a third of the market. Xbox 360 also overtakes PSP for the first time to become the third best-selling platform, whilst another first comes in the shape of four Xbox 360 exclusive titles making the top 20.

Microsoft’s Perfect Dark Zero enjoys the second largest sales increase of the week, climbing 13 places to number 14, whilst Sega’s Condemned: Criminal Origins boasts the best performance by an individual title, more than doubling its sales and entering the top 40 for the first time in 18th place.
