Destiny 2 claims third UK No.1

Destiny 2 has claimed its third UK No.1 in the weekly charts, beating new entries Project CARS 2 and Pokken Tournament DX to the punch. Sales were down 47 per cent week-on-week for Activision’s online shooter, but it was still enough for the publisher to claim itseleventh No.1 this year, split across Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and, of course, Destiny 2.

Project CARS 2, meanwhile, entered the charts at No.2. This was a place lower than the original game, which entered the charts at No.1 back in May 2015, but having seen the game’s physical sales figures, this latest entry must have been a disappointment to both publisher Bandai Namco and developer Slightly Mad Studios – even when you take into account any potential drift to digital.

Other new entries this week included Pokken Tournament DX, which debuted at No.5, and Capcom’s Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, which claimed No.12, while Nintendo’s re-releases of Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver claimed No.18 and No.21 respectively. Telltale’s Minecraft Story Mode Season 2, meanwhile, debuted at No.25.

NBA 2K18, on the other hand, dropped to No.3 after sales fell by 40 per cent week-on-week, and PES 2018 fell to No.4 after a 62 per cent drop in sales. Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition, meanwhile, fell from No.11 to No.26 after a 59 per cent fall in sales week-on-week, and Metroid: Samus Returns fell from No.8 to No.35 after a fall of 85 per cent week-on-week.

Resident Evil VII, however, saw a huge 152 per cent jump in sales, rising 20 places to No.13 after a round of retailer discounts.
