Diablo III: Reaper of Souls sells through 2.7m in week one

Blizzard has confirmed week one sales numbers for Diablo III expansion Reaper of Souls.

The expansion ‘sold through’ 2.7m copies to retail between now and its release on March 25th.

The studio adds that players have between them stopped Death over 1.5m times and that Diablo III views on Twitch on the game’s launch day exceeded 2.4m.

For comparison, the original Diablo III sold 3.5m copies in its first 24 hours in May 2012, along with the 1.2m copies that were handed out for free to World of Warcraft Annual Pass holders.

The game passed the 10m sales mark by November 2012, passed 14m sales a year later and reaching 15m by February of this year.

With Reaper of Souls, we wanted to emphasize all the things that Diablo gamers have always loved about the series, from the dark gothic setting to the piles and piles of epic loot,” Blizzard CEO and cofounder Mike Morhaime said.

We’re excited to see that players are enjoying the changes we’ve made to the game, and we look forward to achieving our Paragon levels alongside everyone else in the weeks and months ahead.”
